Tesla is preparing to manufacture half a million cars with the purchase of Grohmann Engineering

Tesla Fremont

Tesla has bought the German Grohmann Engineering. If not sounds like it is normal. It is an engineering company that develops and manufactures automated systems of production, including, production systems for batteries and fuel cells.

If Tesla has purchased this company (still lack the approval of the regulatory authorities in German for it to be effective) is because you need to multiply pos six its production capacity to cope with the launch of the Model 3.

When Tesla unveiled the Model 3 and the reserves were shot, everyone was clear that one of the challenges of the brand that the commercial launch (planned for horizon 2018) a success is to significantly increase the pace of production at the plant in Fremont, California.

The first year of full production of the Tesla Model S, of Fremont went out to 20,000 cars. The pace was of 400 cars per week. This summer, in Fremont reached the 2,000 cars a week, that would amount to about 104,000 cars per year, although in the Tesla estimate that this year will sell between 80,000 and 90,000 cars.

Still it is not enough to cope with the high demand that is anticipated for Model 3. Tesla must have a productive capacity of 500,000 cars per year in 2018. And so take hold of Grohmann, a company that helped set up the assembly lines for electric Daimler AG and BMW Group.
