Does it make sense to pay 1.8 million pounds for a Porsche 911 GT2 1995?

For years the talk in the areas of auctions of luxury cars that we live in a bubble that sooner or later is going to explode. In recent years we have seen how they have paid astronomical figures for cars that in many cases it is not clear if they have really the value achieved in the auction.

Almost every year, prices in Pebble Beach or in other auctions such as RM Sothebys in London or Monaco to reach business figures disproportionate, in part encouraged by the growing interest in the cars exclusive and in part by the figures in the billions that reach some units. The last example of this possible bubble in which we live, is this Porsche 911 GT2 1995 auctioned last week in London for 1.8 million pounds. Does it make sense to pay that much for a car as well? Let's see it.

Porsche 993 GT2

The Porsche, especially the 911, are from years ago models that maybe more are experiencing in their own meats the fluctuation of prices. Invest in a Porsche 911 can be a very logical, a safe value with which it is difficult to lose. Regardless of the year, the prices of the Porsche 911 are on the rise, and even the "ugly duckling" of the family, the 996, is already starting to increase in some versions such as the Turbo and Turbo S or the GT3 and GT3 RS.

This effect is more prominent if it is in its immediate predecessor, the 993. This generation, the last with the air-cooled engines, has increased its value in recent years prominently. Today it is almost impossible to buy a 993 Carrera, the simplest version, for less than 45,000 euros. In Germany also there are fights made with one, and that makes their prices go up like foam.

Obviously, this effect is compounded when we go to the latest versions exclusive. A 993 Carrera 4S is not low today of 60,000 euros, and that about six years ago could be purchased for a little more than 35,000 euros. The Porsche are therefore a safe investment always, and when we choose which model we want to have and until when you can endure to sell it.

A car very special that only made 57 units

But the protagonist of this article is not a Porsche 993 either, but it is a Porsche 911 GT2 purchased in the year 1995. The origin of the Porsche 911 GT2 is to be found in the competition. Porsche has launched this model to compete in circuits, since it was a setting much more proper for these purposes that the 911 Turbo.

The GT2 were turbalimentados, but lacked the heavy system of traction to the four wheels of the Turbo. In addition, the engines had more power, going up to 430 horsepower without too much problem, turning them well in machines difficult to beat for the competition. To standardize models of competition, they had to make some street units.

Of the approximately 194 Porsche 993 GT2 produced, only 57 were units with approval to be driven on the street. This blue Riviera is one of them, a unit that has had a single owner and that account on your odometer with only 12.730 kilometres travelled.

Until now I was in a private collection of a lover of Porsche, but the last week was one of the protagonists of the auction of RM Sothebys in London, that where also subastaron these other cars curious. This model, which does not have any change in relation to how it left the factory in Ludwigsburg in 1995, and that account with all certificates of authenticity, book of inspections sealed and everything it must have to be considered a collector's item, was auctioned by the astronomical amount of 1.848.000 pounds, thus being one of the 911 most expensive ever auctioned.

Analyzing the situation, perhaps it is too much for a car as well. Ok that is one of the Porsche exclusive history, a car for purists who are looking for stronger sensations in a car vintage as is the 993, but it seems that the price has been excessive if the aim with him is to win something some day. Despite the fact that they have only existed for 57 cars like this, the price is too high.

Porsche 993 GT2

Another thing is that it was the whim of someone, the dream is unreached so far by someone who knows how to assess the pedigree of a machine like this. If that is the case, congratulations on the purchase and enjoy the new toy. Driving a Porsche 993 GT2 should be one of the experiences most glorious that can be had behind the wheel of a car, and that we love.
