Bugatti Chiron : unbridled at 458 km/h on request

Announced at 420 km/h, the top speed of the Bugatti Chiron could reach 458 km/h on request.
During the presentation of the Bugatti Chiron, in February 2016, the manufacturer of Molsheim announced the color of performance : W16, 8L, four turbochargers, 1500ch, 1600Nm of torque, 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0 to 300 km/h in less than 13.6 s and 420 km/h in a point.

But Willi Netuschil, chief engineer of the Chiron, has revealed to the american journalists from Autoblog that it was possible to unlock the electronically-supercar-on-demand so that it can reach more than 458 km/h (285mph), but not in any conditions. "It is necessary to keep in mind at what point the braking distance required is important at this level. The trail of the Volkswagen group, near Wolfsburg has a long straight line specially designed for this type of prowess at high speed. There is also a military base in Germany to which we have access which has a runway long enough", says the responsible.

Speed Record view

The speeds attained by the Chiron have imposed some constraints to the engineers during its development. The test track of Molsheim had to be modified, and that of Wolfsburg was used to develop the aerodynamics more than usual, the wind tunnel is limited to 300 km/h. tests of acceleration and braking were also conducted on the airport of Colmar (68).

Bugatti plans to beat the speed record of a production car in 2018. This will exceed the 431,072 km/h achieved in 2010 when a Veyron Super Sport. Note that the Hennessey Venom GT reached 435,31 km/h in 2014, but this record was not homologated by the Guinness Book due to too much production-limited model (29 copies instead of the 30 required).
